About Me

A native of New Bedford, Massachusetts, I am a multidisciplinary artist, creating in the mediums of Painting, Drawing, Collage, and Photography. My compositions blend elements of color, symmetry, contrast and space that are inspired by my transformational journeys and subsequent wisdoms; a rigorous love of texture and detail also surfaces. My imagination also expands into interior design, where I provide design consulting services, formerly with Ethan Allen.

I have been an exhibiting artists for the past 10 years, displaying my work in solo and group exhibitions in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. A self-portrait photographic series entitled Retribution Refuse was my first solo show in 2016 that captures emotional rebirth and remains a compelling, integral part of my portfolio. To date, I have earned my Associates in Fine Arts, magna cum laude with honors, from Bristol Community College. By invitation, I completed an independent study in painting with my Mentor and Professional Artist, the late Jason Chase.

In December 2020, I and my partner/husband Sean, established MaiatoFitz Art Gallery & Studio, located in Downtown New Bedford, where private viewings of my work are by appointment. I was for President of Gallery X in New Bedford currently nominated for a volunteer seat on the New Bedford Local Cultural Council, as well as . I am now serving another term as their Treasurer, having previously served as Secretary and Treasurer on their Board from 2019 through 2022, respectively.

My most notable collaborations include my work with Ronald Fortier, international artist, documentarian, and cofounder of The Artist Index Podcast, and am involved in his Gallery X Document Project, digitally preserving posters, news articles and like relative to Gallery X. I was also the transcriptionist for The Artist Index in 2022 of several local artist interviews that are archived at the New Bedford Whaling Museum. In 2019, my photography was featured in the “Understanding Potential Benefits and Consequences of Art Therapy in Arts Education” at Quinnipac University in Connecticut with my former Professor, David Stephan Graves. He again featured my work in 2020, “The Role of Trauma in Art, Design - Education” at Bristol Community College in Fall River, Massachusetts.

I also have been featured in several online magazines, including the ArtTALKS segment of the New Bedford Light, Bold Journey, Canvas Rebel and ShoutoutDFW, as well as podcast interviews with The Artist Index and Odd People Podcast Of Bourne, Massachusetts. I also have article mentions by local artist and art critic, Don Wilkinson, in his 2017 “Gallery X’s Annual Public Hanging Remains True to Its Non-Restrictive Roots”, as well as “Some Gems Stand Out in Wealth of Public Hanging” in 2015, both published in The Standard Times.

Presently, I am preparing for an upcoming solo exhibit for September 2025 at Gallery X.

I will continue to explore my creative curiosities and integrate each experience into every project!

You can see my work in and around the southcoast of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
