Mary Jodoin

A majority of my work focuses on cityscapes and urban photography – catching an image or unique angle on everyday subjects (sometimes from a moving car). Rowing teams in Cambridge, Boston construction and local architecture are just some of the subjects of my photos – done mostly in black and white for depth and timelessness.

I’ve only been taking photos in earnest since the death of my father in November 2012 and have found a style, medium and aesthetic I enjoy. I grew up in Arlington, MA and relocated to Boston and New Bedford after living in New Hampshire since 1989. Photography was a “happy accident.” On my commute to Concord, MA, by way of Memorial Drive, I used my iPhone to capture the rowers on the Charles River.

And the rest is history.

After a few shows and having my work displayed in Boston Hospitals I’ve upgraded to a Nikon D750 but I still use my iPhone due to its fantastic portability. I love to work in new mediums such as cyanotype, sometimes using unconventional materials and pinhole cameras.

My newest challenge is to relearn how to use my father’s restored 1952 Leica.”

William D. Jordan, III

I am an imagist. I capture moments —using an iPhone, cheap plastic and pinhole cameras— and I digitally enhance and/or manipulate until I can’t anymore.

Currently I have a perpetually ongoing project of street photos (“Drive-By Shootings”), generally taken from a moving vehicle; a concurrent project combining distressed photos with accompanying haikus; and I’m in the planning stages of making ink mono prints on fine art and homemade papers.
